Carpet Patching Services in Macomb and Oakland Counties, MI
The most common reason for carpet patching is pet damage from your dog or cat, such as carpet holes. But here are some other common carpet problems a carpet patch repair can fix, including burns, bleach spots, stains, tears, rips, fraying, home improvements, and remodeling projects. Carpet patching involves cutting out the damaged area and replacing it with a good piece of the same carpet. Therefore, you will need a spare piece of the same carpet for the patch. If there are no leftover pieces from the original installation, we can take a donor piece from a closet or under furniture and replace it with a random carpet piece. I carry small random pieces to put back into those areas for no extra charge, but they will not match your carpet. The color of the carpet I usually carry in my vehicle is brown/beige. However, you are more than welcome to go out and try to find a piece that matches your carpet. Sorry, I do not supply large pieces.
Why Use A Professional For Your Carpet Patching?
Carpet patching requires training, years of experience, and proper tools to make it look as good as possible. I use an induction heating system instead of the traditional hot iron. With this technology, your patch looks better and is more durable. A very big part of how a carpet patch turns out really depends on how the carpet is cut. If it is not cut very clean, you will see the carpet seam.
I NEVER use glue guns, pressure-sensitive tape (sticky tape), or a hot iron over a wet cloth for patches. Pressure-sensitive and double-sided tape is intended only for temporary carpet repairs and will not last. Glue guns are messy; the patch will look bad and not last if not done correctly. Placing a hot iron on a wet cloth placed over the carpet can leave a light sheen or melt the carpet. In addition, it doesn’t fully melt the seam tape in most cases, and it will come apart over time.
Will The Carpet Patch Be Invisible?
It’s tough to say if the patch will be invisible. There are many variables to this question. Remember that carpet does fade over time, so there might be a slight color difference. The wear of the carpet can affect the outcome of your carpet patch repair. A newer, fluffier carpet will blend in much better than worn, older carpet. It will blend nicely if the carpet is newer and has little traffic. However, the patch will show if it is worn or dirty. Having the carpet professionally cleaned after the patch will improve its appearance. If you plan to have the carpet cleaned, I recommend doing this after the patch, not before.
Cleaning and Flooring Installation
Suppose you have plans to have your flooring cleaned. I recommend having this done after the repair. I recommend using the IICRC Locator (Institute of Inspection, Cleaning, and Restoration Certification) to find a certified cleaner. If you’re looking for a flooring installer, I recommend a certified installer on CFI’s Find an Installer (International Certified Flooring Installers Association).

FAQ on Carpet Patching
Can you replace just a patch of carpet?
Yes, you can replace just a patch of carpet. Pet damage, holes, stains, burns, and fraying edges at transitions are common reasons to have this done. It is highly recommended that the carpet repair be done by a professional carpet installer or somebody specializing in carpet repairs. Carpet patching involves cutting out the damaged area and replacing it with a good piece of the same rug. Therefore, you will need a spare part of the same carpet for the patch. If there are no leftover pieces from the original installation, we can take a donor piece from a closet or under a piece of furniture. Remember that carpet does fade over time, so there might be a slight color difference. You can replace the donor piece with a random sample of carpet. Most carpet repair professionals carry small pieces of carpet to replace in those areas for no extra charge. Sorry, they usually do not supply large pieces. Typically, they will not match your carpet. The carpet they usually carry is beige or a very neutral color. However, you are more than welcome to go out and try to find a piece that matches your carpet. In the attached photo, you see some examples of things that can be patched.
What is a carpet patch?
Carpet patching is the process of removing the damaged area and replacing it with a donor piece.

Where do you take the donor carpet piece from?
The donor piece can come from the leftover carpet from the original installation. If there is no leftover carpet, we can usually take it from a closet, or, in the worst case, from under a piece of furniture.
What will replace the donor carpet?
I can put a new piece of carpet in its place. I carry small random carpet pieces to put back into those areas for no extra charge, but they will not match your carpet. You are more than welcome to go out and try to find a piece that matches your carpet, but it can be challenging to find one that exactly matches. I usually carry beige carpets in my vehicle. Sorry, I do not supply large carpet pieces.
Is patching the carpet noticeable?
In some cases, you’ll never see the patch; in others, you will. It is tough to say whether you will see the patch. Several factors will affect how the patch looks: the carpet’s style, the length of the nap (carpet fibers), the carpet’s age, and its level of fading, matting, and dirt.
Can a Berber carpet be patched?
Absolutely
Can you replace a small patch of carpet?
Yes, you can patch from dime-sized to as big as needed.
My seam looks terrible. Can it be fixed?
Sometimes, it depends on why the seam looks terrible. Remember, no seam is ever invisible. If an experienced installer installed the seam correctly, it should be less noticeable. Sometimes, you’ll need extra carpet to fix the scene properly if it is due to carpet delamination (separation of the secondary backing). Seams are looked at on a case-by-case basis.
